Trafficking in Human Beings for Sexual Exploitation Predominant Form in North Macedonia
On the occasion of the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, the National Commission for Combatting Trafficking in Human Beings and Irregular Migration organized a press conference. The data from the assisted victims, mostly girls below 18 years of age, indicate that trafficking in human beings for sexual exploitation is a dominant form, but there are also victims trafficked for labour exploitation and forced marriages. From March 2018 through December 2019, the mobile teams initially contacted, informed and assisted 797 people, of which 14 were victims of human trafficking and 190 potential victims of trafficking.
The global data shows that since the beginning of the pandemic, violence against women has been on the rise in many countries around the world. Global reports also point to an increased risk of recruiting victims online.
