Supporting Youth in North Macedonia: Establishment of Astronomy Club

Kumanovo - IOM North Macedonia has donated astronomy equipment, including two telescopes, a computer and a microscope to the newly developed Youth astronomy club from Kumanovo as a way to support local communities and young people.

“Thanks to a grant from the IOM, we managed to establish a youth astronomy club in Kumanovo. This is the only club of its kind in this region, where students will develop activities related to science in general, and astronomy in particular,” said Orion Latifi, a member of the Youth Astronomy Club.

The newly developed youth astronomy club has more than 20 members from all high schools and is open for all interested young people from the town with interest in astronomy. IOM North Macedonia collaborated with several non-governmental organizations from the town and identified informal student groups that actively participated in three community dialogues. Through those intercultural and interethnic community dialogues, IOM detected the needs and aspirations of the young people of Kumanovo.

This project is financially supported by the EU and implemented by IOM North Macedonia.
